Mystery of the dismembered feet

Another foot washes ashore and theories abound
|
For the fifth time in a year, a disconnected foot still inside a shoe washed ashore on the lower British Columbia coast this week. Authorities are baffled.
The interesting thing about the mystery of the feet is that, unlike most mysteries about which there is no satisfying explanation, this one offers many somewhat satisfying explanations, but no clue about which one to choose.
There is speculation the feet, being bound and protected inside shoes, are all that remain of aircraft crash victims. There is also speculation the feet are a hoax perpetrated by medical students who have access to cadavers and parts thereof. They could also be, some have suggested, the remains of murder victims, the lopped-off feet being the serial killer’s signature. Someone theorized they are all that remain of victims swept out to sea during the tsunami in the Indian Ocean at the end of 2006.
The first four were all right feet, all male, all at or around size 12. The latest one which washed ashore at Ladner this week was a left foot, throwing doubt on the serial killer signature theory. The lack of feet washing ashore anywhere else around the Pacific or Indian Oceans casts doubt on the tsunami theory. And the lack of the phenomenon occurring following plane crashes into the sea casts doubt on that theory as well.
Detached feet in socks and shoes have been found elsewhere. The community of Sea Bright, New Jersey was beset by the same mystery of a washed-ashore foot in 2006. In 2001, a foot washed ashore on Hog Island, Rhode Island. Coroners in Ontario four years ago determined that three feet that washed ashore in Lake Ontario and in the Niagara River were victims of murder.
It’s a strange thing, no doubt about it. If it is some kind of hoax, good one, dude!
